Few-Shot Prompting: Teach AI With Examples
Few-shot prompting is the technique of giving the AI examples of what you want before asking it to produce. It's one of the most reliable ways to get consistent, on-brand output.
Zero-shot prompting is asking the AI to do something with no examples. Few-shot prompting is giving it 2-5 examples of what you want first. The difference in output quality can be dramatic β especially for style, format, and tone consistency.
Few-shot prompting works because language models are sophisticated pattern matchers. When you show it three examples of a customer reply written in a warm, conversational tone, it extracts the pattern and applies it to the new input. You're not describing what you want β you're demonstrating it.
The best examples are real outputs you've already approved. If you have three great email subject lines that performed well, add them as examples before asking for ten more. The AI will learn your taste faster than any description can teach it.
